CloudWave CEO and CTO in Healthcare IT Today
Erik Littlejohn and Matt Donahue in 2024 Predictions Series
Healthcare IT Today’s John Lynn asked the healthcare IT community what their predictions were for 2024 and how it will impact healthcare in the coming year.
Erik Littlejohn on Healthcare AI Regulations and Ethics:
“Navigating the opportunities, challenges, and cybersecurity risks of AI in healthcare. As the healthcare industry continues to embrace the transformative power of AI, there will be exciting opportunities and formidable challenges. CIOs and healthcare executives will need to simultaneously understand how to harness the potential of AI while safeguarding against emerging cybersecurity threats.”
On Cybersecurity Resources:
“There has recently been a shift in the approach towards cybersecurity funding as the “blank checks” for resources begin to dry up. I expect that to intensify further throughout 2024.”
Matt Donahue on Adoption of Multi-Cloud Architectures:
“Aligning with the broader themes of financial constraints and strategic decision-making, the overarching trend in the move away from traditional data centers will continue, with organizations seeking to optimize costs, performance, and reliability in the cloud.”

Meet Jim Ioannidis
Cloud Engineer
Many CloudWave employees have spent their careers in healthcare IT.
“Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.”
CloudWave customers may agree when it comes to Cloud Engineer Jim Ioannidis. With a degree in electronic engineering, Jim’s first stop in IT was systems networking, where he was a server administrator. He then built storage area networks (using EMC and Dell equipment) for a large data center and eventually built virtual tape libraries for backups.
He joined CloudWave in 2013 as a Production team member with plans to eventually move up to the Technical Services Group (TSG).
“My experience with IT, Storage Area Networks, and building virtual tape libraries all came together here at CloudWave.”
As expected, Jim soon joined the TSG team. He began traveling to customer sites where he worked on upgrades and migrations.
“Working in the TSG team was interesting because you had to be a jack of all trades. From building servers, virtual and physical, setting up networks, configuring storage, and setting up backups,” he explained.
Soon after, Jim moved into CloudWave’s Backup, Recovery, and Archiving (BURA) team, where he now works on data protection, recovery, and migrations for customers.
When Jim is not at CloudWave?
“I’m an avid mountain biker, occasional rock climber, and snowboarder, and I have recently started doing woodworking.”
When asked what he liked most about working in healthcare, Jim shared, “I like working in healthcare because our work matters a little more. Working on the BURA team, it feels good when a hospital needs help recovering data, and we can do that quickly and get them back to normal working conditions.”
