March 2026 edition of CloudWave Connections
Hi friend,
HIMSS this year was a great opportunity to reconnect with so many of our customers and partners—it was great to talk with many of you in person. It was energizing to see the industry come together again at scale. While attendance may not yet rival the peak “Meaningful Use” years, the crowds have clearly rebounded post-COVID, and the level of engagement across sessions and the exhibit floor was strong.
As expected, artificial intelligence was everywhere, almost to the point of cliché. However, beneath the marketing noise, some genuinely compelling and practical use cases were emerging. One that stood out was Canary, which leverages ambient listening and AI to detect early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.
Innovations like this highlight the real potential for AI to move beyond buzzwords and begin delivering meaningful clinical impact. At the same time, cybersecurity was not just a topic on the agenda—it was an undercurrent across nearly every conversation. The cyberattack on Stryker that occurred during the show served as a stark and timely reminder of the risks facing the healthcare ecosystem. The incident highlighted how even large, sophisticated organizations remain vulnerable to increasingly coordinated attacks and reinforced the importance of resilience, recovery, and preparedness across the industry.
Overall, HIMSS reinforced both the momentum and the complexity of where healthcare IT is headed—balancing rapid innovation with the very real need for security, stability, and operational excellence. We look forward to seeing you at HIMSS 2027 in Chicago.

HIMSS26 in Las Vegas
Backdoors & Breaches
We’re still catching our breath after last week’s HIMSS26 show in Las Vegas, where temperatures were warm and sunny outside the Venetian Convention Center. We enjoyed hosting our mock tabletop game, Backdoors and Breaches, and testing our guests’ incident response knowledge.

Some were more eager to join than others, but by the end, not only did everyone enjoy it, many were excited to bring their teammates back for another round. Others took the card deck back to their healthcare organizations, hoping to share the exercise (and the fun) with their teams to better prepare for a cyber incident.
Customer Appreciation Reception
On Tuesday, our customers were treated to an end-of-day cocktail reception featuring hot and cold appetizers and great conversations. Many thanks to AMD and EVT for sponsoring the event.
Afterwards, CloudWave wrapped up a busy day by co-sponsoring MEDITECH’s Night Out at Mercato Della Pescheria. A good time was had by all!

As geopolitical tensions rise, hospitals and healthcare organizations are being urged to strengthen their cybersecurity posture against distributed denial-of-service attacks.
CloudWave’s Brian Lamberger emphasized the importance of preparation with Healthcare IT News’ Andrea Fox, recommending validating DDoS mitigation controls and ISP-level protections, along with rehearsing downtime procedures. Read more

The healthcare sector enters March 2026 facing a professionalized and lethal threat landscape that has transcended traditional data theft to become a primary patient safety crisis. Adversaries are currently prioritizing operational paralysis and “extortion-only” models to maximize leverage.
March 13
The most critical new entry is the March 11 wiper attack on Stryker Corporation, attributed to Iran-linked group Handala (UNC5203), which disrupted EKG transmission systems and medical device operations globally.
