Last month, I returned to the HIMSS conference in Las Vegas, and I immediately noticed the difference. The discussion has clearly shifted from “proof-of-concept” and pilots to demonstrations of agentic AI applications. From “Should we use AI?” to “How do we run AI to improve our business, increase velocity, and boost efficiency?”
AI, interoperability, and cloud platforms are no longer just future concepts. They are appearing in production workflows, demonstrating their business and clinical value as well as ROI.
Cybersecurity has also evolved. What was once only an IT concern is now a matter for management and the board. At HIMSS26, resilience, monitoring, and recovery took center stage, with less emphasis on prevention. Incident response and downtime planning are now regarded as essential capabilities. Vendor third-party risk management and supply chain oversight shift from “Do we trust our vendors?” to processes of validation and ongoing monitoring.
